The area of the campus of the University of Vienna offers modern infrastructure with a historical backdrop. Due to its unique character, the campus is a very sought-after venue for all kinds of events, like congresses, festivals, exhibitions or sports.
Currently a multi-faceted place, the campus houses 16 institutes, four auditoria, numerous service facilities for students, shops, offices and restaurants. The thirteen green courtyards offer an oasis for recreation, enjoying art and culture, convenience shopping and culinary delights to students, office workers and citizens of Vienna alike.
The history of the Vienna University Campus reaches back to the XVIII century, when Emperor Joseph II had the Great Poorhouse transformed into the General Hospital of Vienna. The entire site was then donated by the Municipality to the University of Vienna in 1988.
